So a writer walks into a bookstore….   1 comment

….and there’s no punchline, because we all know she walked out with books.

Today’s purchases:

Monster by Walter Dean Myers.

Steve (Voice-Over)
Sometimes I feel like I have walked into the middle of a movie. Maybe I can make my own movie. The film will be the story of my life. No, not my life, but of this experience. I’ll call it what the lady prosecutor called me … Monster.”

The Gunslinger by Stephen King
I already have a copy of this, in electronic form. It was the first book I bought when I got my first Kindle. My friend Janice loved the Dark Tower books so much she convinced me to read them. Now, don’t get me wrong. I respect Stephen King with all my heart, but – the man writes

novels! I read Firestarter years ago, and The Stand, and most of Needful Things, and a few years ago I read Tommyknockers, because it had a spaceship in it, so I could pretend it was science fiction. But on the whole, I am not a Horror reader. I don’t like being scared. It – well, it scares me. But Janice convinced me that these were not horror, and I gave this first one a shot. Fell in love, read all of them over the next few months. Have spent the past year or so trying to decide on whether or not I’m brave enough to read Salem’s Lot.
So this copy is not for me, but for my son, who wants to read them ‘in real book form’. I insist that e-books are just as real, but I get what he means, so I got him a copy today.

5 Centimeters Per Second by Makoto Shinkai. I saw the movie a few years ago, and they made a manga version of that. I’m a sucker for manga, in case you didn’t read my last post. So this one is for me.

I love bookstores.
